GANTARITV.COM, BEKASI CITY – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has issued a formal apology following a tragic collision between the Argo Bromo Anggrek express train and a Commuter Line (KRL) train at East Bekasi Station on Monday night, April 27, 2026. The incident resulted in four fatalities and left 38 KRL passengers injured, all of whom have been evacuated to nearby hospitals. The collision caused a significant disruption to the regional rail network, prompting an immediate large-scale emergency response.
Vice President of KAI Commuter Indonesia, Anne Purba, stated that the evacuation process is ongoing, involving a coordinated effort between the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Basarnas, and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). While the casualties occurred among the KRL passengers, officials confirmed that all 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek express were evacuated safely without injuries. KAI has since provided shuttle buses to transport the long-distance passengers back to Gambir Station.
The 38 injured victims have been rushed to several medical facilities, including Bekasi Regional General Hospital (RSUD Bekasi) and Primaya Hospital, for intensive treatment. To assist affected families, KAI has established an information post at East Bekasi Station and activated its 121 contact center. Anne Purba emphasized that the identities of the four deceased victims are currently undergoing a verification process at the hospital and will be announced once identification is finalized.
In response to the tragedy, KAI has committed to taking full responsibility, including managing insurance claims and providing recovery support for the victims. To expedite the evacuation and clear the tracks, all train departures from Jakarta’s Gambir and Pasar Senen stations were temporarily suspended. This measure was taken to prioritize passenger safety and allow technical teams to focus on restoring operational capacity at the crash site.
Regarding the cause of the collision—including allegations of signaling failures—KAI has yet to release a detailed statement. The company maintained that the current priority remains the welfare of the victims and the completion of the evacuation process. “We are focusing on the evacuation first. The cause of the incident will be thoroughly investigated by the relevant authorities later,” Anne Purba concluded at the scene.
